Credentialing

Thank you for your interest in obtaining ministerial credentials with the Oregon Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God. Our office is always grateful for the opportunity to connect with men and women who are actively pursuing God’s call on their lives.

Why pursue ministerial credentials?

The selection, preparation, and endorsement of spiritual leaders throughout the Bible was done carefully, prayerfully, and usually recognized publicly to signify God’s call on one’s life. For the Assemblies of God, credentialing is our process of selection, preparation, and endorsement of our spiritual leaders.

An Assemblies of God credential ensures:

  • The genuineness of one’s Christian experience.
  • The reality of one’s divine call.
  • The sufficiency of one’s spiritual, moral, emotional, and social maturity.
  • The adequacy of one’s preparation and abilities.
  • The correctness of one’s doctrine.
  • The validation of one’s commitment to community and accountability.

If God has called you, your call will be evident to the Elders who serve in authority over you. Ministerial credentials provide credibility, ensuring your ministry and life can be trusted.

We accept applications year-round and conduct Credential Committee interviews four times a year. Credentials (except for ordination) can be granted as soon as you complete the necessary steps and receive approval from the Oregon Ministry Network and the General Council.

To be recognized at the Network Summit in April, certified and licensed candidates must complete all steps by the December deadline, ordained by October 31.

Getting Your Credentials

Welcome! We’re thrilled you’re beginning your journey toward credentialed ministry with the Oregon Ministry Network (OMN) and the Assemblies of God. This page lays out all the steps in the process.

Steps to Credentialing

Interested candidates must meet the basic requirements and submit a pre-credential questionnaire. This questionnaire will help us determine whether you qualify for Certified, License, or Ordained. After we receive the questionnaire and your education transcript(s), an education audit will be conducted.

Complete Pre-Credential Questionnaire

Basic Requirements

Spiritual: Candidates for ministerial credentials with the Assemblies of God must be saved, baptized in water and in the Spirit (with evidence of speaking in other tongues).

Education: All candidates must meet the appropriate educational requirements for the level of credentials being sought through a recognized and approved Bible school, college/university, or correspondence course. Transcripts are required. The Oregon School of Ministry and Global University/Berean School of the Bible offer all the required courses.

Marriage History: We believe it is possible to maintain biblical standards for ministry and marriage while at the same time offering a compassionate response to those who are called into ministry yet have a divorce and remarriage in their background. While divorce and remarriage are not automatic disqualifiers from credentialing, they can be in certain cases. If we discover your situation qualifies for General Council recognition, we walk you through this process with the utmost respect and confidentiality.

Bankruptcy: If you have a history of bankruptcy, you must complete a Bankruptcy Questionnaire.

Lifestyle Choices: All candidates must state a willingness to abstain from using tobacco, alcohol, illegal or recreational drugs in any form, and involvement with pornography or gambling.

Residency: Candidate must reside in Oregon at the time of their application.

After we review your pre-credential questionnaire and audit your education transcript(s), you will be scheduled for a pre-interview with our network secretary to discuss your pre-credential questionnaire and education transcript(s) (if applicable).

Following the pre-interview, you will receive an instructional email containing the credential packet that includes the following items:

  1. Official Application
  2. Information Authorization/Release Forms
  3. Background Check Disclosure Form
  4. Reference Forms
  5. Exam Study Guides

Upon receiving the credential packet, the candidate is to complete and remit the following:

  1. Official Application with photo – Must be typed using the writable PDF. Please print the completed PDF, then sign (no electronic signature permitted).
  2. $150.00 application fee (nonrefundable).
  3. Information Authorization/Release Forms – Must be completed by candidate (and spouse, if applicable) and notarized by a notary public.
  4. Background Check Disclosure Form – Must be completed by the candidate.
  5. Social Security Card – Candidates must submit a copy of their social security card to verify their identity.
  6. Reference Forms—The candidate is responsible for ensuring all reference forms are delivered, mailed, or emailed to their references. Then, the references must complete and return the forms to the Network Office in an envelope provided by the candidate or by email to credentials@oregonag.org.

You can give and pay online at https://www.oregonag.org/give.

Once the Network Office receives your completed credential packet, the network secretary’s office will review all the documents. If there are any questions, the credential specialist will contact you.

After the network secretary’s office has reviewed your completed credential packet, the credential specialist will contact you to schedule your presbyter interview. This will be a time to meet your presbyter and share with them about the call and plans the LORD has on your life.

Following the presbyter interview, you can take the required exam(s). When ready, contact the network credential specialist to schedule the exam(s). The OMN requires all exams to be proctored by a presbyter or area leader.

Certified credential candidates are required to take two exams: Bible Knowledge and Doctrine. For licensed candidates (who are not currently credentialed), three exams are required: Bible Knowledge, Doctrine, and AG Polity.

Once you pass your exam(s), the network secretary’s office will invite you to a regularly scheduled interview with the credential committee. Before this, background and credit checks will be conducted on you.

Approval from the Network and General Council

Once these steps are completed, credential candidates are presented to the full network presbytery at a regularly scheduled meeting. The network presbytery’s recommendation and the candidate’s file are forwarded to the office of the AG General Council Secretary for final approval. Once the AG General Council notifies the Oregon Ministry Network concerning the credential candidate, the network secretary’s office will notify the credential candidate of their decision.

Approved candidates will be publicly recognized during the OMN ordination service at our annual Summit each April.

If you have any questions, please call our office at 503-393-4411 and speak to our credential specialist or email them at credentials@oregonag.org.

Transferring Your Credentials

Whether you are moving into or out of the Oregon Ministry Network, we want to ensure a smooth transition. To make the process quick and seamless, please read the following guidelines.

Transferring INTO Oregon Ministry Network

Ministers transferring into the Oregon Ministry Network from another Network/District are to request a transfer from their former Network/District within 60 days of taking up residence in Oregon. It is the responsibility of the former Network/District to complete the transfer to the Oregon Ministry Network. We will notify the minister when the transfer is complete.

Transferring OUT of the Oregon Ministry Network

When an Oregon Ministry Network minister establishes residence in another Network/District, the minister should notify the Network Secretary’s office by completing the form below. Once the form is submitted, we will process your information and transfer your credential unless there is a pending investigation against the minister or their financial obligations have not been met.

You can request transfer here.

If you have any questions, please call our office at 503-393-4411 and speak to our credential specialist or email them at credentials@oregonag.org.

Reinstating Your Credentials

Occasionally, ministers may need to reinstate their credentials after a period of lapse or resignation due to personal circumstances or a season away from active ministry. The Oregon Ministry Network (OMN) and the General Council of the Assemblies of God welcome ministers seeking to return to active fellowship and service.

Applicants for reinstatement can request an Application for Reinstatement from the Oregon Ministry Network office. After completing the form, it must be returned to the Network office for further processing.

Reinstatement Requirements

  • Any tithes/dues outstanding at the time your credentials lapsed or resigned would be due.
  • You must pay a $200 reinstatement fee.
  • You must authorize the mandated background check.
  • You must provide three references if you have not held credentials for over two years.
  • You must complete the exams for the credential relinquished (certified, licensed, or ordained) if you have not held the credential for more than seven years.
  • If the credential lapsed or was resigned in a Network/District other than the Oregon Ministry Network, a letter of good standing from the previous Network/District must be submitted with the reinstatement application.

You can give and pay online at https://www.oregonag.org/give.

The network secretary office will review your application and supporting documents (including exam results, if applicable). They may request an interview or additional information.

If you have any questions, please call our office at 503-393-4411 and speak to our credential specialist or email them at credentials@oregonag.org.

Credential Renewals

All General Council credentials holders must renew their credentials annually. Online renewal begins on November 1. The deadline for renewal is December 31. Ministers should receive an email with renewal instructions in October each year. They must submit the renewals (online only) by December 31 at https://oregonag.org/renew.

Ministers must be current with their financial obligations to the Oregon Minister Network at the time of renewal. According to OMN Bylaws, all credentialed ministers are obligated to give a full tithe (ten percent) from all sources of ministerial income, including the portion designated as housing allowance, but not the value of a parsonage provided in place of an allowance. Regardless of the minister’s source of income, the minimum obligation is $100 per month / $1,200 per year.

If your household has two credentialed members, with ministry income for only one, the spouse’s obligation is $25 per month / $300 per year. If both receive ministry income, both are required to pay a full tithe.

You can give online at https://www.oregonag.org/give.

Renewal Fees

Annual renewal fee for all ministers: $25 to the OMN

General Council dues are as follows.

  • Ordained $300.00 per year.
  • Licensed $240.00 per year.
  • Certified $120.00 per year.

Renewal fees if received after January 1: $25 to General Council and $25 to the OMN

Reinstatement fee (for renewals after January 15): $50 to the General Council and $100 to the OMN (a background check fee of $50.00 may also apply).
