What a great month August has been. We started the month in Florida for General Council. It was a wonderful time meeting friends and family. This Council we were blessed to have our Montana family and Jeff, Kim and the boys attending. Always makes meetings more fun when you have family around.
This month has been full of celebrations of my birthday. One of the highlights was for Bill and I to spend a few days with my very dear friend Vickie, and her husband, in Inlet Beach, Florida following General Council.
The past few months Vickie (who has been my accountability partner for close to 30 years) and I have been going through a great study called “God, Where Are You? by John Bevere. It goes along with a study called The Wilderness Experience. Each week has had some challenging yet encouraging thoughts to ponder.
One of the recent chapters stressed the importance of “focus”. Philippians 3:13-14, …
Forget the past and look forward to what lies ahead - until we reach the end of our race. Pursuing God’s best.
Some lessons learned:
Settle in our hearts that we haven’t achieved or attained everything. We must continue to change and grow. God said Moses was the meekest and most teachable man. He continued to press on (PURSUE) . In order for us to grow and change we must continue to be teachable.
Past failures, rejections and sins, if dwelled upon, will hinder us from moving forward in Christ. However, the triumphs of our past can hold us back as well and we will miss what God has for us now. Isaiah 43 is saying, in order to keep moving forward to accomplish what He intends for us, we must be ready to leave the ways God moved through us in the past. If we don’t, we are in danger of becoming an old wineskin.
We must never cease to search for the heart of God. Pursue - press on toward the mark! Obeying the will of God brings life and liberty and is the only way to find true fulfillment.
These are just a few thoughts from one chapter. As Bill and I are beginning another term as Network leaders we are aware that He’s not finished unfolding the plans for Oregon. He is faithful to continue to give us new dreams. He has done great things, but we’re looking forward to seeing what new things He will accomplish in the coming years.
