Fall Forward

"Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing."

Psalm 143:10

I love how the Holy Spirit leads us forward on a firm footing. Looking back at my life, I have seen it over and over again; each step that He has directed has landed me on a firm footing. Steps I've taken on my own have put me on unstable ground. The Lord has taken me places I never thought I would go and had me attempt things I never thought I would attempt. Life continues to be an adventure of faith. This is a word for the Oregon Ministry Network.

As you move into this season of transition from the long summer days to the beautiful days of fall, I encourage you to fall forward. It is easy to fall back into nonproductive ruts and time-draining routines. But you can choose to be courageous and take a new path; fall forward. You can do this by establishing a healthy schedule that includes a wise balance for your life and leadership.

When the children of Israel stepped into the Promised Land, they first allowed fear and doubt to tempt them to fall back. They felt insecure and anxious about the future. Even Joshua, the faithful and fearless leader, struggled with confidence and courage to fall forward. But God reassured him that the best was yet to come. No matter what they would face, it would pale in comparison to the rewards and riches of days ahead. The directive to the people was...

"Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you."

Joshua 3:5

And sure enough, in a few days, one of the most dramatic events took place and they brought down the walls of Jericho with obedience and praise.

God has a magnificent plan for you this fall. If you are getting ready to move into a new season, you have experienced some changes in your personal life which have made you feel a little uneasy or empty; I encourage you to fall forward in faith! This could be your greatest season thus far in 2012.
