Following Jesus is not always safe!

Following Jesus is not always safe!

In 2008, it was not a safe move to move my family to Salem. In 1999, it was not a safe move to move my family to Bend. In 1989, it was not a safe move to quit my secure job to go into the ministry. In 1986, it was not a safe move to say, “I do” to Barbara Jean Robles. In 1984, it was not a safe move to decide to Follow Jesus. Following Jesus takes courage. Courage is not the absent of fear, but the confidence to confront fear.

Mark Batterson, in his book Wild Goose Chase, writes: “When did we start to believe that God wants to send us to safe places to do easy things?  God wants to send us to dangerous places to do difficult things.” When we are afraid to make a decision, than our indecision becomes our decision.

Jesus’ disciples, in Matthew 28, found out first hand it’s risky to follow Jesus. Matthew 28:17, “The moment they saw him they worshiped him. Some, though, held back, not sure about worship, about risking themselves totally.” (Msg) It takes courage to worship and follow Jesus. It is not always safe, but we are secure in Him.

In life, I desire to be more afraid of missing an opportunity than making mistakes or becoming a failure. I don’t think the great men and women of God knew they where making history as they made history. Let’s Go Make History!
